The four consorts were among the six consorts of emperor Shi Senka. They each gave birth to one of his six sons. They and their sons were extremely jealous of Shi Seien, the second prince who was hailed as the most talented of the Shi princes. They framed him and his mother Suzuran for treason and had the emperor exile them. Few years later when the emperor mysteriously fell ill, the princes fought among themselves for the throne starting a civil war. The war had severely damaged the country and caused many to die.
During the war, some of the consorts were killed and some of the princes died. Those who survived were executed for treason against the current emperor.
